Michigan MCCA Refund

Here's when Michigan drivers will get $400 car insurance refund checks.

Michigan residents who insured vehicles to operate with the required liability insurance effective October 31, 2021 are eligible for refunds of $400 per vehicle. The checks are part of what began in Michigan with auto insurance reform in 2020 and have led to additional medical coverage options in the event of an auto accident. The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) fund that paid for injuries to auto insurance accidents is returning approximately $3 Billion in surplus funds which equates to $400 per vehicle.

Auto insurers have been directed by Michigan’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services to send the refunds by check or direct deposit to citizens no later than May 9, 2022. Michigan residents that insured a vehicle and are awaiting checks do not need to do anything to receive their refund, but may want to contact their insurance agent to verify that the correct mailing address is on file.

Consumers who have questions or disputes with their insurance carrier can contact the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) directly at (833) 275-3437 (833-ASK-DIFS) or by email at autoinsurance@michigan.gov.

The State of Michigan also has a website with information available at www.Michigan.gov/MCCArefund.
